Every year, as National Volunteer Week comes around, we reflect on the vital role volunteers play at the Woodend Neighbourhood House.
We want to say thank you - not as words we say out of habit, but with real appreciation for the countless ways our volunteers contribute.
We want to thank our volunteers for the many hours spent on reception and in our Foodbank, and for the kindness and care shown to participants across the many events and activities we run. From the Repair Cafe and Bike Shed, to our social connection groups like the Community Lunch and Chatty Cafe, volunteers are at the heart of what we do.
We thank our gardeners, cooks, tea makers, group coordinators and donation seekers. And we thank our Committee of Governance, who provide strategic oversight as we serve our community.
With so many roles, it’s no surprise that we have more than 70 volunteers at the Woodend Neighbourhood House. And we absolutely couldn’t do it without them.
Volunteering gives back in ways that are hard to explain until you experience it yourself - the friendships, the sense of purpose, and the pride that comes from being part of something making a real difference.
So this week, we thank not only our own volunteers, but the many volunteers across our community who give their time. From parents coaching junior sport, to organisations like the CFA, SES, Rotary, Lions Club and many others - all of which are powered by volunteers.
We live in a community that is made better because of volunteers - and for this, we say thank you.
