About the Event

What's it all about?

Young people aged 12-17 are invited to discover the fun of West African Drumming.

This workshop will help participants discover the amazement and joy that comes from putting together some very simple rhythms - that anyone who can clap or tap can do - and hearing the beautiful sounds emerge of West African Drumming.

The techniques and rhythms you will learn during the session have been passed from master to master. All the drums have been built under the guidance of Simone Lang, with carved wooden shells from Africa, rope and goat skins.

This workshop will fill you with awe and inspiration as this incredible tradition has been kept alive for hundreds of years, from African villages to Australian Neighbourhood Houses.

Who will be teaching?

Ness has been playing with The Newham Drummers for 8 years and has enjoyed every minute of it!
